So much is happening in West Bengal politics rn,and this new development is really something else . A Trinamool Congress councillor,Sachin Singh,from ward number 36 in Kolkata Municipal Corporation has been arrested for extortion allegations.
And this wasn't some quiet arrest either . Police picked him up from his residence on June 2,2026,and there was a whole group of local people protesting outside. They were claiming he has history of threatening and even physically assaulting political opponents .
Honestly,when local public starts protesting like this,it shows the frustration has been building for long time.
According to sources in Kolkata Police,this arrest is part of a bigger push to tackle corruption and crime linked to political people in the state . Singh was also apparently involved in post-poll violence incidents after the 2021 Assembly elections,which had already given bad name to Trinamool Congress . This was his first term only in KMC,and now his whole career looks to be in trouble .
And tbh,this is where things get uncomfortable.
Just on the same day,another Trinamool councillor,Tarun Chakraborty from ward 87 of Asansol,was arrested too . His charge? Hoarding government relief packages that were meant for poor people. That is just a different level of misuse of power ah .
