So,I just read this news from Telangana and it's quite something . Apparently on June 2,2026,they released 91 life convicts to celebrate Telangana Formation Day.
This is part of state government's special remission initiative,a move for reform and rehabilitation . The list included 85 males and 6 females who met the government's eligibility guidelines. main goal is to help them rejoin society and live with some dignity .
And this is part that actually caught my attention . They are not just letting them go and forgetting about them, they are trying to help them get back on their feet .
The department's Director General,Soumya Mishra, said that 38 of released convicts have already been given jobs at fuel outlets which are operated by the department only . That's a good step, providing immediate livelihood support like that.
And honestly, this is where things get interesting. It's not just about one type of help .
- 38 convicts got jobs at department's fuel outlets for immediate support.
- 53 other individuals are pursuing their own careers in agriculture and business.
- Four of the released women convicts received sewing machines for self-employment.
This whole thing is not just about release,it seems . department says it is committed to helping these individuals with long-term support also, not just on day one.
Mishra also encouraged them to embrace this second chance and contribute positively to society . She said they should maintain strong ties with families and can become role models for successful rehabilitation.
And it seems the Telangana Prisons Department is really trying to change prisons into centres for reform and skill development . They are offering education, vocational training and counselling services inside.
But giving a second chance is one thing, and society accepting them is another thing ah . This all sounds good on paper, but real test starts now for these 91 people. Will they be able to truly integrate back into their old communities…
