Key Takeaways

  • Bhaktinagar station redevelopment costs over ₹26 crore
  • Modern amenities to enhance passenger safety and comfort
  • Project part of nationwide Amrit Bharat initiative

So Bhaktinagar railway station in Rajkot is finally getting a huge makeover . It’s part of that Amrit Bharat Station Scheme and honestly, the pictures and details look pretty impressive.

The whole project is costing over ₹26.80 crore, which is not small amount ah . They are saying the goal is to modernize station so it’s good for next four to five decades. That's some long-term planning.

And Western Railway officials are saying most of the work is already done . Vineet Abhishek, who is Chief Public Relations Officer, said that out of 17 stations getting modernized in Rajkot Division, work at 15 is mostly finished.

He gave one quote also: "The Bhaktinagar station redevelopment has cost more than ₹26 crore ,and maximum work has been completed. Our goal is to provide our passengers with better facilities and world-class amenities," he said .

And tbh,world-class is a big word . But new features do sound very good on paper.

Few things they are adding:

  • Separate entry and exit routes, plus dedicated lanes for taxis and auto-rickshaws.
  • Modern passenger amenities like upgraded booking counters and even tactile pathways for visually impaired people.
  • new garden space of over 25,000 square feet, which is quite big .

They are also adding dedicated parking for individuals with disabilities, modern toilets, and both AC and non-AC waiting areas . Two new foot overbridges have also been built, and one of them is a massive 12-meter-wide bridge connecting platforms.

According to Abhishek, almost all the civil work is completed . Only the installation of lifts is remaining rn. So it seems like it will open very soon for public.

This whole thing is part of bigger plan from Ministry of Railways that started in 2022 to upgrade more than 1,300 stations across India . So it’s nice to see Bhaktinagar is part of it .

But the most interesting part is how this links to future plans . Abhishek mentioned that with railway lines towards Veraval getting doubled, this upgraded station will help manage more trains and reduce the load on the main Rajkot station .

Still, you have to wonder… after all this money is spent and station looks all shiny and new, will the maintenance be good enough in long run . It’s one thing to build, another thing to keep it running properly for years…
