Reading about West Bengal politics,you sometimes see how one person's work can echo for years . And this whole story about Tapan Sikdar in Dumdum is exactly that .
He passed away back on June 2,2014,but his legacy as a big BJP figure in that area is still very much alive. He was basically the first BJP leader to ever win the Dumdum Lok Sabha seat,which he did in 1998 and then again in 1999 .
And honestly,that was huge deal for West Bengal politics . That whole region was always dominated by Left Front and later Trinamool Congress,so his wins really shook things up .
As an MP,his main focus was apparently on things like infrastructure development and national security . Which makes sense because Dumdum has airport and military bases nearby.
This is where things get complicated ah . He was a big advocate for expanding the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport and even pushed for relocating a mosque that he felt was a safety risk for planes.
And now,that same issue is coming up again . His nephew,Sourav Sikdar,is the one taking up this cause now,pushing for changes around airport. family's influence is clearly still there.

But this whole mosque relocation thing is not just about an airport . It’s about faith,politics,and development all clashing in one place,which is always a very sensitive situation in India.
Tapan Sikdar was apparently trying to modernize governance in state that was very slow to change . And now his legacy and his family are at the center of this debate again .
It makes you wonder how these old political battles continue through families and how they will shape the future of places like Dumdum…
