This story coming out of Kerala is honestly, one of the most unbelievable things I have read in long time. A man just walks into police station and solves 40-year-old murder mystery by confessing to it himself.
So this 55-year-old man,Mohammed from Koodaranji, went to police on June 2,2026 and just said, "I have killed two people. Arrest me." Can you even imagine being the officer who heard that? He was apparently just 14 years old when crimes happened.
And police were obviously skeptical at first . I mean, who wouldn't be? There were no formal complaints,no records, nothing from that time. They had to start from zero, relying only on what this man was telling them and trying to find old local testimonies. Not an easy job ah.
The whole investigation took nearly a year . Detectives had to meticulously check every single detail Mohammed gave them. They finally managed to identify one of the victims as Mohanan,a resident of Iritty in Kannur, who was allegedly killed way back in November 1986 .
Few things that are just wild about this case:
- Confession came after almost four decades, from killer himself .
- Investigation was super difficult because there was no evidence or complaint from that time.
- Mohammed's statement actually led to identifying a victim,Mohanan, after all these years.
And this is where the human element really hits you . After police confirmed Mohanan's identity,Mohammed reportedly expressed relief . He said he felt compelled to confess because of the guilt he carried for so many years.
He even said,"It was a grave mistake committed at an age when I lacked maturity and understanding." And that he is ready to accept any legal consequences. It seems like he just wanted closure for himself .
But what's also interesting is that Mohammed's own brother had previously told people he was having mental health issues, kind of dismissing his guilt . Now with police findings, that whole narrative has changed completely .
It just shows how complicated a person's conscience can be .
And now everyone is talking about this case, questioning what justice even looks like after so much time has passed . A crime by 14-year-old boy, confessed by a 55-year-old man… how do you even process that…
