This rally at Marina Beach on May 30,2026 honestly feels like one of those reminders we keep hearing, but still somehow don't take seriously enough . Tamil Nadu's Food and Civil Supplies Minister,P. Venkataramanan spoke on World No Tobacco Day and pushed for more public involvement against tobacco addiction.
And yes,tobacco-free Tamil Nadu sounds like big target . But at same time, when you look at how many families are quietly affected by addiction,it does not feel like overstatement also.
Venkataramanan clearly said state must work towards becoming tobacco-free zone and pointed to harmful effects of tobacco on public health . His line was direct: "It is our collective responsibility to work towards eliminating tobacco use and creating a healthier society."
And tbh, that part matters because tobacco addiction is not just personal habit only . It becomes health problem, family problem, money problem and social problem also . Many people get trapped slowly and by time damage is visible,it is already serious ah.
Few things standing out from his remarks:
- Public involvement — Citizens are encouraged to report ration shop irregularities directly.
- Awareness campaigns — Sustained efforts are needed to reduce tobacco consumption.
- Government commitment — administration is focused on resolving long-standing grievances from citizens.
Minister also said many organizations are already working on de-addiction efforts, but awareness campaigns are needed to stop people, especially youth, from falling into addiction in first place . He said,"Many people continue to suffer because of tobacco dependence. Awareness is the most effective tool we have."
But speech did not stay only around tobacco . Venkataramanan also spoke about public welfare and said administration is working to address grievances raised by citizens regarding delivery of essential services . He urged people to stay alert and report any irregularities seen in ration shops .
He also warned that Food and Civil Supplies Department would investigate every complaint thoroughly, and there would be stringent action against hoarding or misuse of essential commodities . That part is also not small thing, because ration shop issues hit ordinary families directly.
And honestly, this whole message is asking public to not just watch from side . Whether it is tobacco addiction or ration shop misuse, government is saying people must speak up too . But question is,will people actually come forward consistently after rally ends…
