This Sonarpur incident has turned into one more ugly political flashpoint, and honestly,it sounds very disturbing from whatever has come out . When political leader is allegedly attacked while going to meet grieving family, that is not small thing ah.
Mamata Banerjee, the Trinamool Congress supremo and former Chief Minister, has directly blamed Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for attack on her nephew Abhishek Banerjee . Incident reportedly happened in Sonarpur,South 24 Parganas, when Abhishek had gone to meet family of victim of post-poll violence .
And then Mamata put out very sharp social media message saying,"RULERS BECAME KILLERS – shame on you BJP," along with video that captured assault . That wording itself shows how angry Trinamool Congress side is right now.
Trinamool Congress has claimed that even after violent attack,Abhishek Banerjee did not step back from his commitment to support grieving family . And tbh,in politics, this kind of visual becomes bigger than incident itself because supporters see it as attack on whole party.
Few things standing out clearly here:
- Attack on Abhishek Banerjee happened during visit to support victim's family.
- Mamata Banerjee openly called out BJP in social media post with words,"RULERS BECAME KILLERS – shame on you BJP,"
- Mallikarjun Kharge demanded protection for opposition leaders .
Mallikarjun Kharge, the national president of Congress, also condemned attack and called it shocking . He said it shows BJP's oppressive tactics against opposition members, and also pointed toward lack of enough police protection for prominent opposition leaders.
Kharge urged both Government of West Bengal and Union Government to give priority to security of all opposition figures and take immediate action so such violent incidents do not repeat . And this is where matter becomes bigger than one party only, because political violence can easily spiral .
Former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav also condemned attack and described it as orchestrated violence by BJP . He said it reflects party's negative politics, which again adds more heat to already tense political mood in West Bengal.
Now questions around safety of political leaders in West Bengal are becoming louder . Opposition leaders are demanding accountability,Trinamool Congress is pushing hard against BJP,and with upcoming elections near, this whole thing feels like it may not calm down so easily…
