One exam day,one system issue, and suddenly future planning feels stuck for many candidates.
On May 30, 2026 , the National Testing Agency ( NTA ) announced that candidates who could not complete their Common University Entrance Test (CUET)-UG 2026 exam because of technical difficulties will get second chance . And yes, this was needed because exam stress is already too much ah,technical failure on top of that is not small thing.
NTA said disruption happened due to Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) ,the IT partner for examination . This led to delays of around two hours during morning shift, which is honestly lot when students are sitting inside exam centres already nervous .
In message posted on X,NTA said,"We understand today's unfortunate technical disruption caused distress for some CUET (UG) 2026 candidates." That one line at least shows they accepted issue instead of pretending everything was normal.
As per NTA,students who were present at their examination centres and completed their biometric registration will be allowed to take exam again . They also said exam will be conducted with full compensatory time,so affected candidates are not pushed behind because of earlier glitch.
Few things standing out clearly here:
- Technical glitch acknowledged — TCS reported delay that impacted several candidates.
- Compensatory time ensured — candidates will receive full duration for their exam .
- Equal opportunities for all — NTA aims to provide fair chances for all students .
CEO of TCS,K . Krithivasan ,said technical issue was quickly identified and resolved . He also expressed regret for inconvenience caused and said technical teams are monitoring systems closely to make sure future examinations run smoothly.
And tbh, this matters more for candidates from rural and remote areas . Many students already deal with travel issues, limited access to resources and exam centre pressure,so technical glitch can hit them harder than people sitting comfortably in cities may realise.
CUET is big entry route for students across India trying for various universities . Registrations for CUET-UG 2026 opened in early April, and previous year saw over 13.54 lakh students registered,so scale is massive only.
But this also raises one uncomfortable question… if exam systems are handling lakhs of students, shouldn’t backup plan be strong enough that students don’t have to suffer first and get apology later…
