Wow,so much is happening with CBSE right now . Just as this whole On-Screen Marking or OSM system controversy was getting bigger, government has changed the Chairperson on June 2,2026. Seems like very big and sudden move .
The new person in charge is Lokhande Prashant Sitaram, who is a senior IAS officer from 2001-batch . He's coming from Ministry of Home Affairs to take this role. He is replacing Rahul Singh, who has now been moved to Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare.
And it's not just the top post . There's new Secretary for CBSE also,Varun Bhardwaj, who is a 2008-batch Indian Information Service officer . He is taking over from Himanshu Gupta. So a complete leadership change it seems .
And tbh, this whole thing is about that OSM system only . It was introduced for Class 12 board exams this year where scanned copies of answer sheets are checked online instead of physical papers . But it has been full of technical glitches, payment issues for examiners, and so many complaints from students and parents.
This is not small thing ah. The future of so many students depends on this evaluation process.
So now government has started a one-member high-level inquiry to look into the whole mess . S. Radha Chauhan, who is Chairperson of Capacity Building Commission, will investigate how this OSM service was procured and if there was some favoritism for vendors.
Few key things to note from this whole situation:
- High-level inquiry initiated — investigating procurement of OSM services and alleged irregularities .
- New leadership appointed — Sitaram and Bhardwaj to address CBSE challenges.
- Student re-evaluation portal open — from June 2 to June 6 for verification requests.
And in middle of all this drama,CBSE has opened its re-evaluation portal for students from June 2 to June 6 . At least students who feel there's an issue with their marks can apply for verification and get their answer sheets .
This feels like a huge damage control exercise . pressure from students and parents must have been very high for government to take such quick action and change top officials same day only.
But will changing few people at top really solve the deep issues in the system? Or is this just to calm down the public anger for now…
