This Purnea leopard case is honestly scary from both sides . One side villagers of Chakla Bahiyar in Bihar were living in fear for days, and other side a wild animal ended up dead after entering human area .
On May 27,the leopard that had been terrorizing residents was killed by villagers after repeated attacks on livestock . Reports say in past three days,it had killed two calves and a goat, and also injured at least three villagers.
Thankfully, all injured people are now said to be out of danger . But still, imagine living in village where leopard is being spotted again and again, animals are getting killed, and people are getting hurt also . Panic will obviously spread fast.
And that fear seems to have exploded when leopard was spotted again . Villagers gathered at spot and finally managed to kill wild animal . Not small thing ah,because by then people were already on high alert for several days .
Few things standing out clearly in this incident:
- Leopard was killed after multiple attacks and livestock deaths.
- At least three injured villagers are now safe after medical care.
- Forest Department has started probe into how leopard entered human areas .
Local administration and Forest Department were informed about situation, and officials later reached scene to take custody of leopard's carcass . According to Shanti Devi, the village head, they had already communicated leopard's movements to authorities well in advance .
Officials suspect rising heat and humidity may have pushed leopard toward populated area in search of food and water . And tbh, this part feels uncomfortable because it shows how wildlife conflict is not just random anymore, there are bigger pressures building in background.
The carcass has now been sent for post-mortem examination, which will be done by panel of veterinary doctors . That may give more clarity about leopard's health and circumstances of death .
But bigger question is still hanging there . If habitat encroachment, climate change, heat and lack of food keep pushing wild animals into villages, how many more times will same fear repeat…
