This news may sound like usual policy event at first,but actually it says something bigger about how India is seeing its own growth now . Not just as one country moving ahead alone,but along with Global South also .
At Research and Information System for Developing Countries (RIS) 44th foundation day celebrations,Pabitra Margherita,the Minister of State for External Affairs,said India's development trajectory is linked with progress of Global South . And honestly,that line matters because developing countries are facing many same problems at same time .
During his address on May 31, 2026,Margherita said challenges before developing nations cannot be handled in isolation . He spoke about collaborative efforts and also praised RIS for its work over past four decades in giving evidence-based policy research.
And this is where RIS comes in strongly ah . It is not some random think tank sitting in background only. Its research has helped shape policy discussions for India and also for other countries in Global South .
Few things clearly stood out from event:
- RIS was praised for policy inputs on international development discussions.
- South-South cooperation was highlighted with focus on equity and sustainable development.
- India-Africa agricultural partnership came up through conference on stronger farming ties.
Margherita also connected this with vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi,saying India's policies are trying to strengthen voice of developing countries in international forums . Basically,message was that India's growth is not separate from bigger global development push .
Professor Sachin Kumar Sharma,Director General of RIS,also reflected on institution's journey . He recalled that RIS was founded in 1983 to help developing nations with analytical tools for complex global negotiations . That part feels very relevant even today because global systems are becoming more divided and difficult to deal with .
The event also included conference titled "Strengthening India–Africa Partnership for Agricultural Transformation," where experts discussed sustainable agricultural practices and knowledge sharing . Agriculture is not small thing ah,especially when many developing countries still depend heavily on it .
And tbh,main takeaway feels simple but heavy . If Global South countries are facing similar problems,then maybe answers also have to come through shared effort,not everyone fighting alone in separate corners…
