Kajal Vaja,a 19-year-old sprinter from Gujarat,has won silver medal in women’s 4x100m relay at 22nd Asian U-20 Athletics Championships held in Hong Kong,and this is not small thing ah.
She was running with Bhavna from Tamil Nadu,Arti from Haryana,and Nipam from Uttar Pradesh . Together,Indian team clocked 45.05 seconds,won silver medal,and also created new national U-20 record by going past previous mark of 45.08 seconds.
And that 0.03 seconds difference may look tiny on paper,but in sprinting,it means everything . One clean baton exchange,one stronger finish,one small push in last few metres… that is where records get broken.

But what makes Kajal’s story more powerful is her background . She is daughter of farm laborer Hirabhai Vaja from Chorwad village in the Junagadh district,and she has faced serious financial challenges while chasing athletics.
She even took drop year in Class 12 to focus on training . Now that decision looks brave,but at that age,especially from humble family background,it must not have been easy only . People around you question everything when studies are paused for sports.
Her coach,Shivam Upadhyay,has given full credit to her hard work and mindset . He said,"Kajal is one of the most promising young sprinters in the country. Her discipline and dedication set her apart from her peers."
And this medal is not coming from nowhere . Kajal had earlier earned silver at South Asian Senior Athletics Championships in 2025 and she also holds national U-20 record in 60m event . Her journey started through School Programme of Sports Authority of Gujarat,then she moved to District Level Sports School in Kodinar .
Later,her talent was noticed and she was selected for High-Performance Centre in Nadiad in 2023,where she is still improving her skills . Support from officials like Gujarat Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi also shows state is watching these young athletes closely rn.
