This Anaimangalam copper plates news honestly feels bigger than normal political announcement . Because when something from Chola era comes back after being away overseas,it is not small thing ah.
Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting,L. Murugan, spoke about return of historic Chola-era Anaimangalam copper plates, which were recently recovered from Netherlands . These plates are also referred to as Leiden copper plates, and that name itself shows how far our own history had travelled .
And Murugan thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for leading campaign to recover such historical treasures from abroad . His point was simple only,India is trying to bring back cultural artefacts which were taken away and place them where they actually belong.
Few things standing out in this story:
- Anaimangalam copper plates, also referred to as Leiden copper plates, were recently recovered from Netherlands.
- Inscriptions belong to Chola period and give information about reign of Emperor Rajaraja Chola I.
- Plates mention grants made to Buddhist monastery in Nagapattinam, and government wants them brought back to Tamil Nadu.
And honestly, this is where history becomes more real. These are not just old metal plates kept in some glass box . They carry details about politics, religion, grants and South India's cultural life during Chola era.
At same time,Murugan also connected this with wider push by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to restore cultural artefacts from abroad . Whether someone supports government or not, this part does hit emotionally because many such objects are tied to memory, identity and pride .
During latest episode of Mann Ki Baat,Prime Minister Modi also spoke about sports achievements and interacted with young athletes like Gurindervir Singh and Animesh Kujur . Their performances in 100-metre sprint were appreciated, and that part felt like usual mix of heritage, sports and youth encouragement in same discussion.
But then there was another interesting bit. Murugan mentioned traditional ways discussed by Modi to deal with summer heat, including buttermilk and region-specific mango varieties . Very Indian solution honestly, not fancy but practical .
He also praised students from Jaigopal Garodia Hindu Vidyalaya in Nagercoil, who raised ₹40 lakh for welfare of armed forces personnel by saving just Re 1 a day . That one is actually touching because children saving tiny amount daily and turning it into ₹40 lakh says something about patience and feeling for country .
Local BJP leaders, including Karu Nagarajan, were also part of event, showing political importance around this whole discussion . But somewhere behind speeches and announcements, bigger question stays there… how many more pieces of our past are still sitting outside India, waiting to come back…
