Regional Meteorological Centre in Chennai has warned about widespread rainfall across state, and honestly, this sounds like next few days may get messy in many places .
Forecast says heavy rainfall is expected over next five days, with at least 16 districts likely to be affected . This is being linked to southwest monsoon getting ready to advance, with monsoon likely entering Kerala in next few days.
Weather department is saying conditions are becoming more favourable because of cyclonic circulation over southeast Arabian Sea . That system is expected to influence rainfall pattern in big way, especially across western and interior parts of Tamil Nadu.
Nilgiris,Coimbatore, and Tiruppur are already on high alert for thunderstorms and gusty winds . Wind speed may go up to 50 kmph, which is not small thing ah,especially for hilly roads, trees, old buildings and power lines.
Few things people should keep in mind rn:
- Heavy rain is expected in Nilgiris,Coimbatore,Dindigul and several other districts .
- Strong winds and rough seas are likely along Tamil Nadu coast,so fishermen have been advised to be cautious.
- Southwest monsoon is forecasted to advance into Kerala in next 3-4 days, and Tamil Nadu may feel impact soon after .
And it is not just Tamil Nadu alone . Light to moderate rainfall is also expected across Puducherry and Karaikal,so this whole stretch may see active weather once system strengthens .
RMC has said weather activity may increase from June 2 to June 4,especially in western Tamil Nadu . Districts like Theni and Erode could see intense rainfall, and that is where flooding risk becomes real if drains are blocked or water starts collecting fast.
Local authorities are being told to keep drainage systems ready because heavy rain can quickly create local flooding . At same time, monsoon is badly needed for agriculture, water sources and crop growth,so it is blessing and worry together only.
But with heavy rain, gusty winds, rough seas, flooding and even landslide risk in some areas, people really cannot treat this like normal rain . Next few days will show whether this monsoon entry stays manageable or starts creating bigger trouble…
