The situation in Manipur is becoming very tense rn,with both Naga and Kuki groups protesting over this hostage crisis. It feels like things are escalating daily .
And main problem is this back-and-forth . The United Naga Council (UNC) was apparently going to help release 14 Kuki hostages, but now they have deferred it. They are insisting that first the six Naga civilians, who are allegedly held by Kuki groups, must be released.
This is where things get so difficult ah . When one side says 'you first',and other side says 'no,you first',how can any progress happen? It just makes situation more volatile.
And now a youth organization,Khanuithot-Khon,has also given one strong statement . They are condemning any negotiation that doesn't have verifiable proof of life for the missing Naga civilians. They've warned that any decisions without transparency could have serious consequences.
Few things standing out clearly in this crisis:
- Joint security operations by Central and state forces are ongoing to rescue hostages.
- Violent incidents on May 13 already made things worse, three church leaders were killed.
- Kuki Inpi Manipur has enforced a total shutdown, affecting daily life in Kuki-Zo areas .
But this shutdown is creating huge problems for common people . Meanwhile, security forces are continuing their search operations across districts like Kangpokpi and Senapati for about 20 people who are still held captive . This all comes after those clashes on May 13 that killed three church leaders and injured four others .
The Manipur government is also trying to do something . letter was sent from Commissioner-cum-Secretary (Home) N. Ashok Kumar to UNC President N.G. Lorho.
And in that letter,he stated that case of the missing persons has now been transferred to the National Investigation Agency (NIA) for proper investigation . This is not small thing.
The government is repeating its commitment to protect citizens and restore peace . They are urging everyone to help with safe release of hostages .
But with so much mistrust between communities,it's hard to see a clear path forward . Everyone is talking about peace, but on ground, the demands are very rigid… what will happen to the people being held captive…
