Electoral roll correction is boring only till someone finds their name missing before voting day, then suddenly everyone starts panicking.
The Election Commission of India (ECI) announced on Sunday that enumeration phase under Special Intensive Revision (SIR) has started for Odisha,Mizoram,Sikkim, and Manipur . This phase kicked off on May 30, 2026,with main aim of making sure every eligible elector is properly registered in electoral rolls .
Deadline given by ECI is June 28,2026,for receiving Enumeration Forms from electors who want to be included in Draft Electoral Rolls . And honestly, this date matters because people who delay may have to go through claims and objections period later.
But there is still one option for those who miss deadline . They can register during claims and objections period by submitting Form-6 along with required Declaration Form . Not impossible, but definitely extra step.
Few things standing out in this whole exercise:
- Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will conduct house-to-house visits to distribute and collect Enumeration Forms .
- Recognised political parties can appoint Booth Level Agents (BLAs) to help in process.
- ECI says aim is to include eligible citizens and exclude ineligible voters.
During enumeration phase,Booth Level Officers (BLOs) have been given job of going house-to-house . Each BLO will carry minimum of 30 blank Form-6 and Declaration Forms,so anyone wishing to enroll as new elector can do it without running around too much .
And recognised political party involvement is also there . Booth Level Agents (BLAs) can assist and they are allowed to collect up to 50 forms per day . This can speed things up,but at same time, process needs careful handling ah,because voter rolls are not small matter.
ECI has said this direction comes from its constitutional powers to ensure no eligible citizen is left out and no ineligible person is included in electoral rolls . Basically, citizens who are at least 18 years old and not otherwise disqualified by law can register.
Numbers are also quite big here . Odisha has approximately 3.34 crore electors,with 38,123 BLOs and 8,391 BLAs . Mizoram has 8.75 lakh voters,1,353 BLOs,and 3,430 BLAs . Sikkim has 4.71 lakh electors,572 BLOs,and 681 BLAs,while Manipur has 20.92 lakh electors,2,996 BLOs,and 5,003 BLAs.
And now real test is not announcement,it is whether people actually fill forms properly,BLOs reach homes on time, and names do not vanish or get wrongly added somewhere in this whole process…
