UP government has finally made one big police appointment, and honestly, this was pending for quite some time . Under leadership of Yogi Adityanath,Rajeev Krishna has now been appointed as new Director General of Police (DGP) of Uttar Pradesh .
And this announcement came on Sunday, ending long wait for permanent head of state police force . That post had been without permanent appointment since dismissal of former DGP Mukul Goyal in 2022,so yes, this was not small thing ah.
Notification confirming Krishna's appointment was signed by Additional Chief Secretary Sanjay Prasad . Rajeev Krishna was already serving as Acting DGP,and now he moves into permanent role after selection process involving panel of senior officers tasked by Union Public Service Commission (UPSC).
That panel reportedly looked at several candidates, including other notable IPS officers . But finally,Krishna's long policing experience and track record in law enforcement worked in his favour.
Few things standing out clearly here:
- Rajeev Krishna has over three decades of policing experience, including role as Director General (Intelligence) and District Police Chief in major areas.
- His appointment comes when government is focusing on crime control, public safety and law-and-order management .
- His background in police modernization may matter as Uttar Pradesh looks at more technology-driven policing strategies.
And tbh,his career profile is pretty heavy . He has worked in intelligence operations and law enforcement, and also served as Police Chief in key districts like Lucknow and Noida . His operations against bandit gangs also got him recognition inside police community.
Rajeev Krishna was born on June 26,1969,in Gautam Buddha Nagar and joined Indian Police Service (IPS) in 1991 . His rise to rank of DGP in February 2024 shows how long this career climb has been.
But now real test starts only . Appointment is one thing, running police force of state like Uttar Pradesh is completely different pressure.
And people will be watching whether this permanent leadership actually brings better crime control, more efficient policing and real technology use on ground…or whether same old system continues with new name at top…
