On Sunday,Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini openly raised serious concerns about law and order situation in Punjab,especially after recent municipal elections.
He did not speak softly also . Saini accused Congress and Aam Aadmi Party of collaborating to undermine democratic process . That is big allegation ah,because once parties start questioning election method itself,whole debate becomes much bigger than just local poll results.
During press briefing in Kapurthala,CM Saini said elections being conducted through ballot papers showed Punjab government's lack of confidence in facing voters transparently . According to him,this raises questions about integrity of electoral system.
And honestly,this is where things get uncomfortable.
Saini also attacked Punjab government over promises made before coming to power . He said many of those promises have largely remained unfulfilled and criticized Aam Aadmi Party for not delivering on campaign commitments . His line was sharp: "The public is now aware that development cannot be achieved through mere announcements."
Few points he kept repeating clearly:
- Rising gangster activities — Increased crime has led to public insecurity in Punjab .
- Failed anti-drug initiatives — The government's campaign has not yielded desired results.
- Public trust in Modi — Citizens are increasingly favoring PM Modi's leadership for development.
He pointed to rise in gangster and criminal activities in Punjab and said people are feeling insecure . This is not small matter,because once public starts feeling unsafe in daily life,then announcements and slogans do not carry much weight.
Saini also took aim at Punjab government's anti-drug campaign,‘Yudh Nashe Virudh’ . He said campaign has focused more on publicity than actual concrete steps to fight drug abuse . That criticism will sting Aam Aadmi Party,because drug issue has been one of Punjab's most emotional and painful topics for long time.
But Saini also used Haryana as comparison . He said Haryana's double-engine government has focused on public welfare through effective schemes,and mentioned how Central government’s Ayushman Bharat Scheme was integrated with Haryana's Chirayu Scheme to improve healthcare access for many families.
In his view,people of Punjab will now move more towards leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and demand government that gives genuine development and accountability . Maybe he is reading public mood correctly,maybe this is political messaging before bigger battles… but Punjab's questions on safety,drugs and trust are clearly not going away so easily…
