Princee Rani ,an IPS officer from Tripura cadre,has now become first woman to hold position of Inspector General (IG) of Border Security Force (BSF) Tripura Frontier .
And in security forces,especially border-related roles,this kind of first still matters . Her appointment was announced on Thursday,and she is taking over from current IG,Aloke Kumar Chakraborty .
What stands out here is not just rank,but place also. BSF Tripura Frontier is not some easy desk posting. Tripura shares 856-km border with Bangladesh,so role comes with real pressure,real field complications and constant security concerns.
Few things clearly standing out in this appointment:
- Princee Rani is first woman IG of BSF Tripura Frontier.
- She has worked in Tripura Police and NSG earlier.
- Tripura Frontier handles 856-km border with Bangladesh.
And tbh,seeing woman officer reach this position in male-dominated security setup feels important. Not because women need symbolic praise every time,but because these roles were almost always seen through male lens for long time.
Rani is 2005-batch IPS officer and has handled multiple responsibilities before this . She served as Deputy Inspector General of Traffic in Tripura,and also had responsibilities involving Superintendent of Police (Traffic) and Superintendent of Police (GRP). That is proper administrative plus policing experience together.
Her husband,Parshant Kumar Goyal ,an IAS officer,has also recently resumed duties in Tripura administration. He is currently serving as Secretary for Public Works and Finance Departments. So yes,this also becomes one of those rare moments where both are in high-level roles in same state machinery.
She has also received Medal for Meritorious Service,which says her work has already been recognised before this posting . But still,BSF Tripura Frontier will be different kind of test only,because border security is never simple on ground.
And now expectation will naturally be high . First woman in this chair,experienced officer,sensitive border,security force culture… all eyes will be on how Princee Rani handles this next phase…
