Delhi-NCR people finally woke up to some relief on May 29,and honestly,after heat touching 49 degrees Celsius,this rain must have felt like blessing only . Thunderstorms,clouds,strong winds… suddenly whole mood of region changed.
For last one week,weather was just brutal . Daytime temperatures were consistently crossing 45 degrees Celsius and nights were also not giving any proper relief. That kind of heat is not small thing ah,especially for people travelling,working outside or living without proper cooling.
India Meteorological Department (IMD) has said this wet and windy spell may continue until May 31 . Areas like Delhi,Noida,Ghaziabad,Gurugram and Faridabad saw cloudy skies,intermittent rainfall and strong winds after fresh pre-monsoon activity started affecting northern India .
And tbh,this is exactly kind of break people were waiting for .
Previous evening also,NCR cities saw heavy showers and gusty winds which disrupted traffic and reduced visibility . So yes,relief came,but not quietly. It came with dust,wind,traffic mess and those sudden dark clouds which make everyone check balcony and roads at same time.
Few things standing out clearly in this weather shift:
- Temperature drop of 5 to 7 degrees Celsius — expected to provide sustained relief from heatwave.
- Thunderstorms and dust storms — swept through North India,bringing dramatic relief .
- Weather system moving eastward — satellite imagery showed dense clouds spreading from Rajasthan to Delhi-NCR.
IMD linked this change to pre-monsoon activity,and satellite imagery showed dense cloud formations moving from Rajasthan and Haryana towards Delhi-NCR,Agra and surrounding areas . That eastward movement is what brought this sudden rain and cooler conditions across region.
Another good part is that rainfall and cooler temperatures may help improve air quality also . After days of heat,dust and trapped discomfort,even slightly cleaner and cooler air feels like big relief for people stepping out.
But at same time,this weather is also reminding everyone how extreme things have become . One week people are struggling with 49 degrees Celsius,and next morning they are dealing with thunderstorms,strong winds and traffic disruption.
For now,Delhi-NCR has got long-awaited relief till May 31 as per IMD forecast . But after that,will heat return with same force again or will this pre-monsoon spell continue giving some breathing space…
