AAP’s Punjab civic body election result is not small thing ah . Winning 862 out of 1,765 counted wards gives Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) strong political oxygen, and obviously party leaders are reading this as public approval for their work.
And after this result,Manish Sisodia, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister, came out thanking voters in very direct way . Elections were held on May 26,and because Assembly polls are scheduled for early 2027,this result is being watched very closely.
In his interview with IANS,Sisodia said,"I thank the people of Punjab for this mandate and I am grateful for trust they have shown in leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and AAP Convener Arvind Kejriwal ." That line itself shows AAP wants to connect this win not just to candidates, but to Bhagwant Mann and Arvind Kejriwal also.
And honestly,862 wards is big messaging . Civic body elections may look local, but they quietly show mood on ground only. If people are voting for Councillors and Mayors from same party in large numbers, then some signal is definitely there.
Few things standing out from this result:
- AAP won 862 out of 1,765 counted wards.
- Congress came second with 348 seats, while Independents secured 242 wards.
- Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) won 169 wards,BJP got 138 and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) won six wards.
Sisodia also used this moment to target opposition, especially Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He said results show people have rejected fear and intimidation tactics, and preferred constructive politics over divisive politics.
He also said,"Today, the people of Punjab have shown that same love again and expressed their trust once more," while talking about support for AAP and Chief Minister Mann . For AAP,this is clearly more than just ward counting,it is confidence-building before bigger fight .
Punjab Minister Aman Arora, who heads party’s state unit, gave credit to AAP workers and initiatives taken by Mann government . And tbh, this is expected after such result because party workers are ones who actually carry local elections booth by booth.
But at same time, local body elections and Assembly elections are not always same game . Mood can continue,or it can shift quickly depending on governance, opposition strategy and local anger.
So yes,AAP has got strong push from Punjab voters right now,but whether this wave stays till early 2027 is question everyone will keep watching…
