So South African Deputy President was in New Delhi, and meeting with President Murmu happened on June 2 . Good to see some important diplomatic activity happening.
This meeting was at Rashtrapati Bhavan with President Droupadi Murmu and South African Deputy President Shipokosa Paulus Mashatile . President Murmu apparently emphasized that both countries need to deepen their relationship across different sectors .
And she pointed out that trade is growing impressively, which is good sign . She urged for more collaboration in areas like technology, pharmaceuticals, energy, and even MSMEs . These are all very important areas for our economy ah.
Honestly, this India-South Africa friendship is not new thing . President Murmu herself described it as both historic and contemporary. Both countries are big voices for the Global South,so this kind of cooperation makes lot of sense .
Few things standing out from the discussions:
- Strengthening trade ties — Both nations are looking to boost trade and investment opportunities .
- Focus on technology and innovation — Clear emphasis on collaboration in tech and pharmaceuticals.
- Shared historical ties — relationship is old, rooted in common struggle for justice .
And it wasn't just one meeting . Earlier,Deputy President Mashatile also met with Vice President C P Radhakrishnan . They discussed things like defense cooperation and improving people-to-people connections.
This was a long visit actually, started on May 29 and included engagements in New Delhi and Hyderabad . Mashatile also had a meeting with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, talking about cooperation in different sectors and international forums .
So many high-level meetings in just one visit only . It shows South Africa is quite serious about its relationship with India rn.
But with everything changing so fast in the world, you have to wonder how these diplomatic talks translate to real benefits for common people . All these discussions about partnerships and shared aspirations are great, but the follow-through is what matters…
