On May 31,2026,Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke about rare Chola-era copper plates coming back from Netherlands,and he called it a "moment of immense pride" for India.
And yes,that reaction makes sense also . These are not just old metal plates kept in museum somewhere . They are pieces of history connected with King Rajendra Chola I,the Chola dynasty and that whole period when India's links with outside world were already very strong.
During 134th episode of Mann Ki Baat,Modi recalled his recent visit to the Netherlands,where these copper plates were returned in special ceremony attended by Prime Minister of the Netherlands . That itself is not small thing ah,because cultural artefacts returning home always carries some emotion with it.
The returned set has 21 large and 3 small copper plates,mainly linked with King Rajendra Chola I . They document a donation to a Buddhist monastery,and that detail alone shows how much history is sitting inside these inscriptions.

Then he shifted from history to skies,which was interesting tbh . He spoke about India's old fascination with astronomy,historical observatories,and asked young people to follow interest in astronomy . But question is,will we actually protect and study these things properly,or just feel proud for one day and move on…
