This Rahul Gandhi debate has again become very noisy,and this time spark did not come only from BJP side . Historian Ramachandra Guha questioning his leadership has given National Democratic Alliance (NDA) fresh opening to attack Congress even harder.
And honestly,when someone like Guha says Congress works like a "family firm",it naturally becomes political ammunition . NDA leaders have picked that line fast and are now calling Rahul Gandhi a "major burden" on Congress.
Guha,writing in his article,raised concerns about Rahul Gandhi’s leadership style . He said Gandhi appears to lack necessary gravitas and has not really learned from past mistakes . That is not small criticism ah,especially when Congress is already struggling with repeated electoral setbacks.
Then BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla jumped in with sharp comment . He said,"First,the public rejected Rahul Gandhi; he has lost 99 elections." He also claimed that even inside Congress,there is feeling that Rahul Gandhi should step aside for new leadership.
Few points getting repeated in this whole row:
- Public rejection of Gandhi — consistently lost elections,raising doubts
- Need for new leadership — calls for Priyanka Gandhi to take charge
- Criticism from within — Congress leaders echo concerns about Gandhi's effectiveness
But NDA leaders are not stopping there only . Syed Shahnawaz Hussain also said Congress is struggling to find suitable leadership and added,"It's not something new; people have believed for a long time that Rahul Gandhi is a major burden on the Congress party."
And tbh,this is where Congress problem looks deeper than one article or one comment . When opposition keeps attacking Rahul Gandhi,it is expected . But when criticism starts getting framed as something even Congress people quietly feel,then it becomes more uncomfortable.
C. P. Singh,a BJP MLA,also pointed at Gandhi’s communication problem and said his inability to communicate properly has hurt his leadership . Rajiv Ranjan Prasad from JD-U said Guha’s remarks should be taken seriously because of his earlier closeness to Nehru-Gandhi family.
That point about Nehru-Gandhi family is what keeps coming back again and again . NDA is pushing idea that Congress needs leader from outside family if party wants renewal before upcoming elections . For Congress,this is not just image issue now,it is about survival in states where they still hold power.
And still,big question is whether Congress will actually rethink leadership or again treat this as political noise from rivals…
