Digital checking is fine, but trust has to be there.
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has now announced stronger cybersecurity measures for its OnMark portal after concerns started rising around evaluation system . This is coming after reports of technical issues during Class 12 assessments, and timing itself tells why board had to act fast .
Now cybersecurity experts from government agencies and Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) are being involved to tighten portal security . On paper, this sounds like right step, but question is why students had to first raise alarm before things reached this level.
Main issue is around newly implemented On-Screen Marking (OSM) system . Many students reportedly saw unexpected variation in marks and then asked for access to evaluated answer sheets . And once that happens, confidence in whole process takes hit very quickly .
Few things standing out clearly here:
- CBSE is working with government agencies and Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) to strengthen OnMark portal security.
- Technical issues during Class 12 evaluations and score discrepancies have increased concern over On-Screen Marking (OSM).
- CBSE says no live data was compromised and flagged vulnerabilities were linked to testing environment.
CBSE has also thanked alert citizens and ethical hackers for pointing out weaknesses in OnMark portal . That part is interesting, because it shows outside people played role in spotting issues which could have become bigger later.
But at same time,CBSE has firmly denied data breach claims . Board says vulnerabilities being discussed were connected to testing environment, not live evaluation portal . So according to CBSE,no live data was compromised .
Still, for students, this explanation may not immediately calm everything down . If marks look different from expectation, student will not think about testing environment or live portal first . They will think about future, college admissions and whether evaluation was fair .
And tbh, this whole shift to digital evaluation needs more than just technical fixes . It needs transparency, clear communication and quick answers when students ask for evaluated answer sheets . Otherwise every small glitch will feel like big doubt…
Now CBSE says it is improving reliability and addressing concerns from students, parents and educators . But until people actually feel system is fair and stable, that uneasy feeling around digital marking may continue only…
