This Kolkata illegal construction story is honestly not surprising, but still quite worrying . KMC has now identified approximately 3,000 illegal constructions across city, and that number is not small thing ah.
As per official report released on Sunday, these unauthorized buildings are scattered in different parts of Kolkata . But some places like Beliaghata,Tangra, and Kasba are coming up again and again in this issue.
And problem is not just one extra balcony or small adjustment . Many constructions have reportedly been described as entirely unlawful, and some are even at risk of demolition at any moment.
KMC's Building Department has now marked certain areas as 'red zones' because illegal construction is especially concentrated there . That itself shows how openly this thing has grown over time.
Few things standing out clearly here:
- Areas like Beliaghata and Tangra have been marked for high illegal construction.
- Investigations have linked illegal constructions to local political syndicates .
- KMC's new enforcement strategy is now targeting unauthorized developments .
And this builder trick mentioned in report is also very telling . Builders allegedly take permission for one kind of structure, like G plus four, and then construct something bigger and unauthorized, like D plus five . Basically, approval on paper is one thing, actual building becomes something else only.
This helps local promoters and construction syndicates make more money, but at same time it pushes up cost of building materials also . So common people finally pay price in one way or another .
The political angle makes whole thing even more uncomfortable . Allegations have come up that certain leaders from Trinamool Congress are involved in these illegal activities, and after change in government,KMC administrators have increased monitoring across city .
Officials are saying some buildings may not be fully demolished, but extra unlawful floors will be checked closely . And honestly, this is where real test starts because removing illegal floors is one thing, but breaking network behind them is much harder.
Kolkata has seen these constructions grow for years with local backing, promoter pressure and political influence mixed together . Now KMC is trying to act,but question is whether this crackdown will actually continue once pressure starts coming from all sides…
