So Odisha government is now bringing in AI to watch over its land registration offices . This was announced on June 2,2026,and honestly, the main target seems to be the middlemen culture that plagues these places .
The whole plan was revealed by Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari after one high-level meeting at Lok Seva Bhawan . He was very clear that this AI-enabled Smart Surveillance System is for tackling corruption and making things more transparent for common person.
And tbh, this is where it gets interesting . system will use advanced CCTV cameras to identify and track these middlemen who just hang around the offices without any official work . Pujari himself said,“The possibility of corruption in registration offices largely arises due to the activities of middlemen.”
So the idea is to use technology to flag these people and then take action against them . This is not just about catching them, but also about creating a deterrent .
Few things standing out clearly in this plan:
- Enhanced monitoring will also track attendance and working hours of officials themselves.
- AI will be used to specifically identify middlemen and stop their interference in transactions.
- System will gradually be expanded to cover all Revenue Department offices in state .
But it's not just about middlemen only . The government says this new system will also help with fire safety through better alert mechanisms . They are also upgrading the control room capacity for real-time monitoring of everything .
And to give it more teeth, security arrangements at all registration offices will be strengthened . There is even talk of giving Registration Officers additional powers, like making them function as Executive Magistrates when needed. That's a big move ah.
The government's message is that they are very serious about a transparent and accountable revenue administration . They want to remove influence of middlemen completely.
But you have to wonder how effective it will be in practice . People always find ways around technology.
Still,it’s a major step towards using tech for better governance . Let's see how this whole AI surveillance thing plays out on ground…
