Seeing some interesting news about India and Thailand getting closer on defence side . A delegation from our National Defence College (NDC) visited Royal Thai Air Force Headquarters in Bangkok on June 2,2026 .
This seems like a pretty big deal for strengthening ties in region .
The delegation was led by Major General APS Bal and they were greeted by Air Marshal Wichain Vijiradharma,who is the Deputy Chief of Air Staff for Intelligence . They apparently discussed ways to improve defence cooperation between both countries.
And it wasn't just all meetings . The delegation also got a tour of the RTAF Museum which sounds quite cool,learning about their air force history and all .
And honestly,this kind of engagement is very important ah.
Reports say they also had discussions with Ambassador Puneet Agarwal at Indian Embassy in Bangkok . The main topic was how to make the India-Thailand Strategic Partnership even stronger through more defence-sector work .
Few things standing out here:
- This visit is all about boosting bilateral defence relations.
- Both countries already do joint military exercises regularly.
- whole relationship got better after India's Act East Policy.
This isn't some sudden new thing only . The Ministry of External Affairs pointed out that this has been building up for a while,especially after Look East Policy was upgraded to the Act East Policy . This changed things in a big way for politics,economy,and even culture .
In recent years,you can see it in action with joint exercises and maritime patrols to handle issues like terrorism and piracy . And since COVID restrictions were lifted in 2022,these exchanges of experts and port calls by our naval ships have started again.
There’s also a growing cooperation in defence industry . Both India and Thailand are showing up at each other’s defence exhibitions,which is great for sharing knowledge and maybe even future collaborations.
All these small visits,tours and meetings seem quiet . But maybe this is how big partnerships are built over time,not with loud announcements but with steady work…
