So one big political fight has erupted over a UP police encounter on June 2,2026 . And it looks like leaders from NDA and Samajwadi Party are having very different views on whole thing .
The whole issue started after Maharashtra Samajwadi Party chief Abu Azmi made some strong comments . After a police encounter in Ghaziabad where murder suspect was killed,he alleged that UP police actions were based on religious bias.
And honestly, this is where the whole debate got really heated .
Azmi said that encounters were unjust and called for proper legal process . His quote was, "If someone is a serious offender, give them the death penalty, but there is a Constitution for this." He also raised concerns that police actions change depending on religion of victim and accused .
But NDA leaders immediately hit back strongly . They defended UP Police, saying law enforcement has to be impartial . BJP Rajya Sabha member Dinesh Sharma had a very sharp reply,"If someone comes before you and starts firing, will you first ask whether he is a Hindu or a Muslim?"
And this wasn't just one leader . JDU (U) National Spokesperson Rajiv Ranjan Prasad also criticized Azmi's comments . He asked, "Why do leaders like Tejashwi Yadav and Abu Azmi always appear to be so sympathetic towards criminals?"
Few things standing out in this whole situation:
- Encounter in Ghaziabad involved killing of Asad, the key accused in a teenager's murder.
- Abu Azmi alleged religious bias by police, demanding due process .
- NDA leaders defended UP Police, stating crime shouldn't be seen through religious lens.
Other NDA members are also echoing this sentiment, saying crime is crime and should not be connected to religion . They are also claiming that these police actions have actually improved public safety and confidence in the state.
This whole thing has again brought debate around police methods in Uttar Pradesh to the front . It's that same old fight ah… public safety versus proper legal procedure .
And the political consequences of these encounters just keep growing . Leaders are trying to balance everything, but these incidents always create deep divisions… and it feels like there is no easy answer anywhere .
