So finally some relief for household budget ah . Mother Dairy has confirmed they are not planning to raise milk prices anytime soon . And honestly, after the last hike, this is some much needed good news.
This comes right after they increased prices by ₹2 per liter on May 14 . At that time, they said it was to partly cover the rising input costs . So this new announcement feels like a small break for all of us.
The company, which is a subsidiary of National Dairy Development Board (NDDB),sells around 55 lakh liters of milk every single day . So their pricing affects lot of people.
And their Chairman Meenesh Shah gave statement about this . He said, “I do not foresee any further increase. But then if there is any increase in input cost and we are in a situation where we are unable to meet our ends, we will see.”
That "we will see" part is what makes you think,ok,so this is not a permanent promise . It feels like a temporary pause only.
But for now,the supply situation is apparently "comfortable" and stable . They also mentioned that India's total milk production is expected to grow by 4-6% in current financial year, which should help meet growing demand .
Few things to note here:
- Mother Dairy says supply is comfortable,so no price hike for now.
- The recent ₹2 hike was because of higher procurement prices from farmers.
- Overall milk production in India is projected to increase by 4-6% this year.
And tbh,it's a tough balance for them . They pass on about 75-80% of what they earn from milk sales back to the farmers . So when farmer costs go up,that pressure comes directly to the company and then to us.
This is a big operation we are talking about . Mother Dairy was set up in 1974 and has a massive turnover of ₹20,300 crore in FY26,selling everything from 'Dhara' oils to 'Safal' vegetables.
So while it's great news rn,that statement from chairman keeps ringing in my head . The whole thing depends on "input cost" not increasing . And with everything getting more expensive, you have to wonder how long this stable situation will actually last…
