Just saw this news about India sending help to Uganda for the Ebola outbreak, and honestly,it's one of those things that feels both good and scary at same time. Good because we are helping, but scary because Ebola is not small thing ah.
A special C17 Globemaster aircraft from Indian Air Force (IAF) landed there on June 2,2026 . It was carrying vital medical assistance to help them fight the whole situation.
And this is actually the second time we are sending aid . High Commission of India in Kampala announced on X that this was the second tranche of support. first one was sent on May 24, 2026 . So the response has been pretty quick .
This shipment apparently includes protective gear, diagnostic tools, medicines and even nutritional supplements . Basically, everything to support their healthcare system which must be under huge pressure rn.
External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar also highlighted this, saying,"Confident that this 43 tons consignment will further strengthen public health preparedness and bolster Ebola response capacities across Africa." 43 tons is a very big consignment .
Few key points from this whole thing:
- Second tranche of medical aid — includes protective gear and medicines to fight Ebola.
- First tranche dispatched earlier — India started its support on May 24 .
- WHO's emergency declaration — the Ebola situation was declared a Public Health Emergency on May 17.
And tbh, this isn't just about Uganda only . On May 29,India said it's ready to provide more aid to other affected countries and the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) . The situation in Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) with Bundibugyo Ebola outbreak is also worsening,so this help is definitely needed across the region.
The World Health Organization (WHO) declared it a Public Health Emergency of International Concern on May 17 . That declaration itself shows how serious this outbreak is,and it's what really gets other countries to start acting.
It's good that India is stepping up and showing solidarity in these global health crises . You just hope all this support is enough to contain it… these things can spread so fast and become so much worse if not handled properly from the beginning…
