The hunger strike has garnered significant support across Maharashtra, with community leaders rallying for their cause. The government is under pressure to respond effectively to these demands.

Key Takeaways

  • Manoj Jarange Patil begins indefinite hunger strike
  • Demands for Maratha reservation intensify in Maharashtra
  • Government under pressure to respond to community demands

Manoj Jarange Patil starting indefinite hunger strike on May 30, 2026 in Antarwali Sarati,Maharashtra is not small thing ah,especially after talks with government side failed just previous day.

Government delegation, including Cabinet Minister Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil, had met him and discussion reportedly went on for approximately one and a half hours . But even after that,no resolution came out . So from Jarange Patil’s side, this hunger strike looks like message that patience is finished now.

During meeting,he raised questions around Hyderabad Gazette and issuance of Kunbi certificates . These two points are at center of Maratha community’s reservation demand,so obviously this was not some casual discussion. And when no clear answer came,he made it clear that he was not ready to give more time.

By 10:00 A.M . on Saturday, his hunger strike had started . And honestly, this is where pressure on government becomes very visible.

His 10-point agenda has many demands, but few points are standing out sharply:

  • Issuance of Kunbi certificates to all Marathas in Marathwada without delay.
  • Unconditional withdrawal of police cases against Maratha protestors across Maharashtra.
  • Immediate resumption of welfare schemes under Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaj Research,Training and Human Development Institute (SARATHI).

Support for Jarange Patil is also spreading across Maharashtra . In Kolhapur, members of Sakal Maratha Samaj came out in solidarity and they also demanded inclusion of Kolhapur Gazette in reservation process, similar to Satara Gazette. So this is not limited to one village or one stage only .

At same time, political activity has also increased. Minister Patil and MLA Prasad Lad are reportedly holding talks with Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis . But from what Jarange Patil is saying, normal assurances will not work now . He wants direct orders from government to bureaucratic officials for issuance of Kunbi certificates .

His line was very clear: "Our primary demand is that 58 lakh people must be given Kunbi certificates along with caste validity," . That one sentence shows how serious and urgent this has become for him and supporters.

And tbh, when someone begins indefinite hunger strike in rising temperatures, government cannot treat it like routine protest . Question now is whether next meeting brings actual written action or again just more talking…
