One proud but also slightly emotional scene came from Khadakwasla campus in Pune on May 30,where General Upendra Dwivedi, the Chief of the Indian Army, presided over Passing Out Parade for 150th Course of National Defence Academy . And honestly, events like this always hit differently because behind uniform and parade, there is whole life changing moment for these young cadets.
The ceremony happened at Khetarpal Parade Ground, and 355 cadets were commissioned into Indian Armed Forces . Cadets showed that sharp military precision and discipline which NDA is known for,but still, you can imagine families watching from stands with mixed feeling of pride and worry.
And this was not just another official visit for General Dwivedi also . He himself graduated from NDA as part of 65th Course,so coming back to same institution as Army Chief had different weight only.
He told cadets,“More than 42 years ago,I passed out through this very court, carrying the pride of what this Academy had made me, ready to have a rendezvous with what lay ahead.” That line feels personal, not like usual formal speech . Because he was basically standing where they are standing now, just after 42 years of service and experience.
Few things stood out clearly from his message:
- 355 cadets from 150th Course passed out at National Defence Academy in Pune.
- General Upendra Dwivedi, from 65th Course of NDA,presided over parade.
- He focused on leadership, adaptability in modern warfare, and lifelong learning.
And tbh,his point about leadership felt most important . He said true leadership is built on trust and character, which sounds simple, but in military life this is not small thing ah . People follow orders, but real respect comes from character only.
He also spoke to international cadets present there and said,“You came from different soils, but you leave shaped by the same ground and the same values.” This part was actually meaningful because friendships formed during training can later matter between countries too, especially when world is already so tense.
But his warning about modern security challenges was also serious . General Dwivedi said boundary between competition and conflict has blurred, and new officers have to be adaptable and sharp thinkers . He also referred to Operation Sindoor to show how India responds with precision when challenged.
He identified three qualities for their careers: attitude, adaptability, and ability . And then he said,“Nurture all three with discipline, curiosity, and courage,” which is honestly a pretty direct message for anyone entering armed forces rn .
As parade ended,it must have felt like one chapter closing and much harder one opening . These cadets are leaving academy with pride, training and values, but what kind of tests are waiting for them outside… that part nobody can fully know…
