This whole Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) meeting feels like classic alliance pressure moment in Maharashtra politics . Election is still on June 18,but tension is clearly happening now only because June 1 nomination deadline is almost here.
On Friday,NCP convened core committee meeting chaired by Deputy Chief Minister Sunetra Pawar,to push its claim over local body constituencies in Raigad,Pune, and Parbhani for upcoming Maharashtra Legislative Council elections . And honestly, when allies sit together this close to deadline,it usually means seat-sharing is still not fully settled.
Senior leaders like Praful Patel,Chhagan Bhujbal, and Dilip Walse Patil were part of discussions . NCP wants clarity with allies Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Shiv Sena under Maha Yuti arrangement, because everyone knows last-minute ticket confusion can create more damage than actual opponent sometimes .
Sunil Tatkare sounded confident that deadlock may get sorted soon . He said three parties have agreed to contest total 17 seats collectively, and added,"We have presented our stance regarding the number of seats the NCP desires before the Chief Minister, and we anticipate decision by Saturday afternoon."
And this is where Raigad becomes interesting ah . Competition for Raigad seat is said to be intense because both NCP and Shiv Sena want it . Tatkare also said,"It is natural for every party to want a seat for themselves," which is honestly most honest political line in entire situation.
Few things standing out clearly here:
- Final decision on seat allocation expected soon, especially on which party contests which seat.
- Rapid discussions are happening because nomination process must conclude by June 1.
- No names finalized yet for candidacies, even though aspirants are already waiting .
Tatkare also clarified that upcoming meeting in Sutarwadi, his native village,is unrelated to Legislative Council elections . That clarification itself shows how much speculation is floating around rn,because every meeting starts getting connected to ticket politics .
Sunetra Pawar and other leaders have already consulted Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis about fielding candidates in Raigad,Pune, and Parbhani . Chief Minister has advised more discussions so consensus can happen, which basically means final call is still with top leaders of Maha Yuti .
Current numbers also show why bargaining is tight . BJP is eyeing 11 seats, while Shiv Sena wants 4 and NCP is aiming for 2 to 3 seats . NCP side is saying it wants these seats based on its strength and previous electoral performance, but in alliance politics, strength is one thing and final adjustment is another.
And now everyone is waiting for Saturday afternoon . Will NCP actually get what it wants,or will Raigad again become that one seat where alliance friendship gets tested…
