Yumnam Khemchand Singh, the Chief Minister of Manipur, said on May 30, 2026,in Imphal that state cannot really move ahead unless all 36 communities move ahead together.
And that line matters because Manipur is not just one flat social picture . There are communities living in both hilly and valley areas of Manipur, and Singh’s point was that overall progress depends on every group getting space, benefits and respect from government plans.
During interactive session with beneficiaries of post-matric scholarship program for Scheduled Tribes,he again spoke about balanced development across state . Not just development for one side, not just schemes on paper, but something reaching each community .
And tbh, this is where issue becomes bigger than scholarship alone.
Singh said lasting peace and unity will come only when each community is empowered and gets equal share in benefits of government development work . He also said,"Development can only flourish in peaceful environment," and that is one line people in conflict-hit places understand very directly.
Few things standing out from his remarks:
- He linked progress of Manipur with development of all 36 communities.
- He urged dialogue for harmony among communities .
- He said some scholarship delays were linked to Aadhaar and bank account linkage problems .
But scholarship delay part is also not small thing ah . Singh expressed concern over reports that some students had not received scholarship payments for four months . For students depending on that money, even one month delay can disturb fees, hostel, rent, books, everything.
He assured students that funds had been released and government is working to fix these problems . He also said education is fundamental in shaping futures of youth, and honestly, that sounds correct but students need money to actually reach them on time also.
Deputy Chief Minister Nemcha Kipgen joined through video conferencing and spoke about how event matters for empowering tribal youth . She said Chief Minister’s interaction with students helps bridge gap between government and citizens, and called Post-Matric Scholarship scheme more than just financial aid, because it supports students trying to complete their education.
And still, bigger question stays there only . If peace, education and equal development are all connected, then how fast can government actually solve ground problems before students and daily wage workers again end up paying highest price…
