This whole Sonarpur incident feels messy from every side . Prime Minister Mamata Banerjee’s nephew,Abhishek Banerjee, was allegedly assaulted during visit to Sonarpur in South 24 Parganas,West Bengal, and after that hospital drama started almost immediately.
Abhishek had reportedly gone there while meeting family of slain workers, but local protests turned aggressive . People were angry over post-poll violence affecting their community, and situation apparently reached point where he was physically assaulted and eggs were thrown at him.
And not small thing ah,he even had to wear cricket helmet for protection during that chaos .
After this,Abhishek was first taken to private hospital near Eastern Metropolitan Bypass . Mamata arrived there with family members, including Abhishek’s mother,Lata Banerjee, and she was clearly not satisfied with treatment being given.
Within 30 minutes of reaching emergency unit,Mamata decided to shift him to another hospital . She told media that proper care was not being administered, and then made direct allegation about pressure from outside.
"We are shifting Abhishek from here. He is not receiving proper treatment here. Probably this is because of some instructions from any higher authority," she stated.
Few things standing out clearly here:
- Abhishek Banerjee was assaulted during visit to Sonarpur while facing local protests.
- Mamata Banerjee accused Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and state government of interference in medical treatment.
- Abhishek was later seen leaving first hospital in wheelchair, wearing patient’s apron, before being admitted to different facility in central Kolkata .
And honestly, this is where politics and medical care getting mixed feels very uncomfortable . If patient is not getting proper treatment because of pressure, that is serious allegation . But at same time, initial hospital has yet to respond to Mamata’s accusations,so one side of story is still missing .
Mamata also took to social media and directly blamed BJP and state government for unrest around her nephew’s visit . This has now drawn big media attention because West Bengal politics already runs hot,and this incident only adds more fuel.
Some political analysts are already saying this may start deeper discussion on political safety and treatment of public figures in region . But rn,bigger question is simple only… what exactly happened inside that hospital, and who will answer that?
