Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma met Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw in New Delhi on May 30, 2026 ,and main discussion was around railway expansion across Assam .
Now,railway projects may not sound very dramatic like political fights or crime news,but for Northeast,this is not small thing ah . Better tracks,better stations,better connectivity can change how people travel,how goods move and even how remote areas connect with bigger markets.
During meeting,both leaders reviewed ongoing railway expansion work,including laying and upgrading more than 1,300 km of railway tracks . That number itself shows scale is quite big,and if work actually moves properly on ground,it can reduce many old connectivity problems in Assam.
They also discussed redevelopment of over 50 railway stations under Amrit Bharat Station Scheme . This part is important because passengers don't just need trains,they need cleaner stations,better waiting areas,safer platforms and basic facilities which actually work.

Officials noted that stronger rail connectivity can help remote areas link with major commercial hubs,which may support trade and tourism . Over recent years,investment in railway projects has increased in Northeast,mainly to reduce travel time and connect region better with national transport network .
If these projects move fast,Assam could see more jobs,more movement of goods and more local business activity . But if delays start,then same big numbers will just remain on paper…
