Delhi water crisis is again looking very serious, and heatwave has only made situation more painful for people . When drinking water itself becomes uncertain in capital city, then this is not small thing ah.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta held review meeting on May 30 ,and she said government is committed to making sure every citizen gets adequate drinking water . That sounds basic, but right now even basic supply is becoming daily struggle in many areas .
And worst impact seems to be around Wazirabad along Yamuna River, where water availability has been hit badly . In summer, these things become unbearable because people cannot wait for policy talk when taps are dry.
Gupta also spoke with Haryana's Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, and got assurance that Haryana would maintain minimum of 1,000 cusecs of water supply through Munak Canal . For Delhi, this matters lot because any cut or shortage from that side immediately creates pressure here .
Few things standing out rn:
- More than 980 tankers are being deployed by Delhi Jal Board.
- More than 6,000 daily trips are being done to deliver water, especially in densely populated areas .
- Delhi Jal Board received 11,055 complaints last week, with over 8,500 resolved .
And honestly, those complaint numbers say everything . Over 11,000 complaints in one week means people are not just mildly inconvenienced, they are actively struggling for water at home.
Gupta has told officials to take every water leakage report seriously and act fast . This part is important because when supply is already short, leakage feels like insult only . People standing with buckets while water is getting wasted somewhere else is enough to make anyone angry.
At same time, government is talking about long-term plans also . IIT Roorkee is doing feasibility study on pipeline water supply from Haryana,so water loss can be reduced . Dredging Yamuna and setting up new treatment plants are also being worked on,according to update.
But real test is not meeting room or announcement,it is whether water actually reaches homes in this heat . Tankers can help for now,but Delhi keeps returning to same water panic every summer… so how long will people keep managing like this?
