Because court delays are not small thing ah,especially when families, land, loans or personal disputes get stuck for years .
At District Court Complex in Ballari, judges and judicial officers from Ballari,Vijayanagara, and Koppal came together for training session focused on mediation . High Court Judge R. Nataraj inaugurated workshop and spoke about how mediation has now received statutory recognition.
And that point matters because mediation is no longer being treated like some side option only . Judge Nataraj said judges must actively identify cases which can be settled through mediation,so parties can resolve disputes more peacefully instead of fighting endlessly in court.
The workshop was organized along with Karnataka State Legal Services Authority and Karnataka Mediation Centre . That also shows this is not just one random lecture, but part of bigger push inside system to make dispute resolution faster and less bitter .
Few things clearly stood out here:
- High Court Judge R. Nataraj said mediation has received statutory recognition.
- Judge C.M. Poonacha said mediation is now legal requirement and useful for reducing court backlogs.
- Judges were urged to encourage parties toward mediation early in litigation process.
And tbh, this is where it feels practical . Many cases in courts are not just about law papers, they are about broken relationships, anger, ego and old fights . If mediation can reduce animosity and help people talk before matters become worse, then it can save lot of emotional damage also.
Judge C.M. Poonacha, who joined virtually, also pushed same idea . He said judicial officers should take proactive stance and encourage parties to choose mediation early,so social harmony and public confidence in justice delivery system can improve.
There were also technical sessions by trainers Brinda Nandakumar and Jo Joseph from Karnataka Mediation Centre . Principal district judges and legal service authorities from three districts were present too, which made whole thing look like coordinated effort rather than symbolic event.
But real question is whether this training will actually change daily court practice . Because mediation sounds good in workshop halls, but for ordinary litigants standing outside courtroom with stress and pending dates, will it really bring faster peace…
