This Karnataka Council elections cross-voting issue is now becoming much bigger than just one voting episode . BJP leader R . Ashok has openly said party will go after legislators who betrayed them, and honestly, that shows how serious mood inside party is rn.
Speaking from Belagavi on June 21,2026,Ashok said,“We will find out those legislators who cross-voted in the Council polls and punish them.” That is not soft warning ah. Coming from Leader of Opposition in the Legislative Assembly, this sounds like direct message to own camp only.
He also said discussions are going on with state party president B.Y. Vijayendra, and one meeting is scheduled in Bengaluru to look into issue properly . So clearly,BJP is not treating this as small internal confusion.
And tbh, this is where politics gets messy. Cross-voting means public face says one thing, but inside numbers tell different story . Trust becomes problem immediately .
- BJP is checking which legislators cross-voted in recent Council polls.
- R. Ashok said,“We have suffered betrayal in the Council polls,”
- Ashok has promised punishment and severe repercussions for those found guilty.
Ashok also took aim at Congress, accusing them of behaviour similar to horse trading . He said,“When some Congress MLAs went to Mumbai in 2019, it is the same Congress leaders who called it horse trading,” pointing at irony in their earlier stand.
But at same time, this situation is not just BJP versus Congress. It is also about BJP looking inside its own house and asking who shifted during voting . That kind of suspicion can damage party mood badly, especially when discipline and loyalty are being talked about so strongly.
For supporters,Ashok’s tough line may look like strong leadership . But for legislators,it may create pressure and fear also, depending on how investigation is handled in Bengaluru meeting.
And now real question is simple but uncomfortable: who actually cross-voted,and how far will BJP go after its own people…
