This Musi River rejuvenation project issue is getting more heated now,and K.T. Rama Rao has again gone after Congress government in very direct way . On June 21, 2026,he addressed Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) workers in Rajendranagar and raised serious questions about poor and middle-class families being pushed out .
And honestly,this is where development debate becomes uncomfortable . Because on paper,river rejuvenation sounds nice only,but if families are losing homes in process,then people will obviously ask who is paying real price .
Rao said project is displacing many poor and middle-class families and called it unjust . He also claimed Congress and BJP are working together on this,which is a serious political charge,not small thing ah.
He then targeted Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy over proposal for statue of Mahatma Gandhi . Rao’s point was that talking about Gandhi while allowing housing demolitions does not sit right at all . He also reminded workers that Mahatma Gandhi’s grandson,Tushar Gandhi,has opposed project too.
Few things standing out from Rao’s attack:
- Rao alleges Congress and BJP are working together on Musi River rejuvenation project.
- He says land acquisition is hurting poor and middle-class families more.
- He described Telangana governance as corrupt and even used mafia state type charge .
And tbh,the BJP angle is politically interesting here . Rao questioned why central government has not stepped in to stop injustice linked to land acquisition . His argument is that local BJP leaders oppose project publicly,but central leadership is still giving approvals needed for it.
That contradiction is what he kept pushing . If local unit is against something but Centre is enabling it,then people will naturally wonder what actual stand is . Politics in Telangana is already messy,and this only adds more confusion.
Rao also attacked proposed Future City initiative,calling it another example of wrong priorities . He cited transfer of around 180 acres of government ceiling land to private entities during Congress rule and linked it with corruption and land grabbing allegations.
And at centre of all this,poor families are again stuck between big promises,big projects and big political fights . Development may be needed,but if homes are demolished and answers are unclear,then question stays hanging… who is this progress really for?
