Key Takeaways

  • Gujarat Police launch Operation Mule Hunt 2.0
  • Targeting mule accounts linked to cyber fraud
  • Previous operation revealed ₹2,289 crore in fraud

So it looks like Gujarat Police is getting serious about all these online scams with something they are calling Operation Mule Hunt 2.0 . And about time too, these cyber fraud cases are becoming too common .

This whole thing is set to kick off across all districts from June 2 . Apparently there was a big strategy meeting chaired by Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi with top police officers like Director General of Police K.L.N. Rao.

And their main focus is on these "mule bank accounts" . These are the accounts that criminals use to hide and move money they've scammed from people. It's the financial pipeline for their entire operation.

And tbh, this is the core of the problem . If you cut off their money flow, the whole criminal network gets disturbed.

This isn't first time they've done this though . They had an "Operation Mule Hunt 1.0" back in December 2025,which was apparently quite successful. During that first run, they registered 565 FIRs and arrested 638 people.

Few things standing out here:

  • Operation Mule Hunt 1.0 uncovered cyber fraud transactions worth shocking ₹2,289 crore.
  • focus is entirely on these mule accounts which are crucial for laundering scam money.
  • This is a big statewide collaboration, with local police and cybercrime units working together.

Police also identified and took action against 913 mule accounts during that first operation, and these were linked to over 4,000 cases across whole country . That's a huge network ah.

Now for version 2.0,they are using data from Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre and the National Cybercrime Reporting Portal to track suspicious money trails and get to these accounts faster.

It's good to see them taking such a planned approach instead of just reacting to individual complaints . Disrupting financial part is only way to really hurt these organised cybercrime gangs.

But you have to wonder if it will be permanent solution . These fraudsters are always finding new ways, new people to open accounts for them… it feels like a never-ending chase…
