So many high-level meetings are happening between India and Germany officials these days ah. It feels like almost every week there's some new delegation visiting and discussing partnerships.
External Affairs Minister S . Jaishankar just met with Mario Voigt, who is the Minister-President of Thuringia,Germany . The meeting happened in New Delhi and was all about business opportunities and tech partnerships.
Jaishankar also posted on X about it,saying,“Delighted to meet Minister-President Mario Voigt of Thuringia,Germany, and his delegation . His strong support for expanding India-Germany and India-European Union relationships is welcome.” So clearly there's good feeling on both sides.
And it wasn't just him . Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta also met with Voigt and his delegation at the Delhi Secretariat.
They were talking about cooperation in some very specific areas like urban development and governance . Gupta also shared on X,“Had productive interaction with Mr . Mario Voigt,Minister-President of the German State of Thuringia, and accompanying delegation.”
Few things they focused on:
- Smart urban development – Exploring collaboration in sustainable city planning.
- Digital governance – Enhancing innovative public service delivery.
- Skill development initiatives – Strengthening talent mobility between India and Germany.
And honestly, this focus on things like mobility solutions, water management, and environmental tech is very much needed for our cities rn.
But the partnership isn't just about business and city planning . Back in April,Defence Minister Rajnath Singh also had big meeting with his German counterpart,Boris Pistorius . They discussed deepening defence cooperation and even co-development of defence tech.
They even signed a Defence Industrial Roadmap, which shows serious commitment to working together on security issues.
So it feels like this is a very wide-ranging relationship now, from smart cities to defence technology . Not just one ministry, but many different departments are involved.
It's one thing to have these meetings and release statements, but you have to wonder what the actual on-ground impact of all this cooperation will be in next few years…
