So Shashi Tharoor has stirred up another controversy, this time about Vande Mataram . And honestly, the reaction from BJP was exactly what you would expect.
Tharoor basically said that making people sing all five verses of national song at public events is an "unnecessary imposition" by Central government . He was supporting the Kerala government's decision to not play the full version, saying it was a matter of practicality.
And this is where things blew up immediately.
BJP leaders came out very strongly against this statement, calling it vote bank politics . BJP spokesperson Rohan Gupta called Tharoor's comments unfortunate and said they show Congress's disregard for national pride.
But the criticism didn't stop there ah .
Another BJP spokesperson,Ujjwal Deepak, brought up history . He said Tharoor should remember how Congress historically removed important stanzas from the song in past . He claimed that it is BJP only that has worked to restore pride in Vande Mataram.
And tbh,the language got very intense after that . National spokesperson for the BJP,Pradeep Bhandari, even labelled Congress as a "Muslim League Maoist Congress",accusing them of siding with groups that harm national unity .
Few things standing out in this whole fight:
- Tharoor called singing all five verses of Vande Mataram burdensome .
- BJP accused Congress of disrespecting national symbols for vote bank politics.
- The debate also brought up past Congress decisions about song's stanzas.
Honestly, this feels less like a real debate and more like another political performance from both sides . These symbols like Vande Mataram are always at center of these fights.
It's same script every time, with one side talking about practicality and other side talking about national pride . And public is just watching from sidelines.
This whole thing will probably just fuel more TV debates and social media fights for a few days . But does it really solve anything… or just divide people more?
