Projects get approved,and then people keep waiting because files,permissions,land clearances and departmental NOCs move slowly.
On May 27,2026 ,during cabinet meeting in Gandhinagar,Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel initiated development of new standard operating procedure (SOP) to cut delays in development projects across Gujarat . Main focus is on faster land acquisition clearances and necessary departmental permissions.
And honestly,this is where people will watch closely . Because saying “fast-track” is one thing,but making departments actually move faster is different game only .
After meeting,state government spokesperson and minister Jitu Vaghani said these directions are meant to improve transparency,administrative efficiency and public convenience . CM Patel also made it clear that procedural delays should not block approved projects from moving ahead.
Few things standing out from cabinet meeting:
- Fast-tracking development projects — New SOP to streamline land acquisition and clearances
- Monsoon preparedness review — Urgent completion of pre-monsoon work across Gujarat
- Quality assurance in construction — Strict instructions to maintain high standards in ongoing infrastructure projects
Vaghani said Chief Minister specifically asked for quick processing of permissions,including land acquisition clearances and no-objection certificates (NOCs) from departments like Forest Department . Idea is simple: once project is approved,there should not be another long pause because some file is stuck somewhere.
But cabinet did not stop at development projects only . Monsoon preparedness also came up,and CM Patel instructed authorities to speed up pre-monsoon work so citizens do not face inconvenience during rains . This also includes identifying immediate water sources for municipal lakes which are currently dry,so urban water management does not become last-minute panic.
There was also strong focus on construction quality . CM Patel told engineers and officials to look at even small details like line levels and flooring in buildings . Vaghani said any defects found must be fixed quickly,which is actually not small thing ah,especially when public infrastructure is involved.
And then environmental and sanitation side also entered discussion . Urban Development Department has been asked to secure funding for tree plantation activities in municipal areas . CM Patel also proposed dedicated sanitation “head” at different local governance levels to strengthen Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Swachhata Hi Seva’ campaign.
Overall,this feels like government trying to tighten loose ends before delays and monsoon complaints pile up again . But real question is whether this new SOP will actually change ground-level speed,or just become one more document moving through same slow system…
