Congress has made one more big move in Goa politics, and honestly, this reshuffle feels like party is trying to reset things before next round of elections starts heating up .
The All India Congress Committee (AICC) has appointed Girish Chodankar as new President of Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC),with decision effective immediately from May 29,2026 . For Congress in Goa,this is not small change ah,because party has been trying to recover ground after setbacks in recent years.
Along with Chodankar, three working presidents have also been named — M.K. Shaikh ,Altone D’Costa ,and Adv. Carlos Alvares Ferriera . Datta D . Naik has been appointed as treasurer,so clearly high command is not just changing one face but trying to put new team in place.
And tbh, this looks like attempt to bring some energy back into local unit . Goa Congress has had enough internal trouble and election disappointments,so new leadership will have pressure from day one only.
Few things standing out clearly in this reshuffle:
- Girish Chodankar has been made new President of Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC).
- M.K. Shaikh ,Altone D’Costa ,and Adv . Carlos Alvares Ferriera have been appointed as working presidents.
- Datta D. Naik has been appointed as treasurer.
Congress also expressed gratitude to outgoing president Amit Patkar for his contributions and leadership during his tenure . That part is expected in such announcements, but real question is whether new team can actually bring workers together on ground.
Party seems to be looking at grassroots mobilization, better communication with central leadership and issue-based campaigns ahead of assembly and parliamentary elections . Sounds good on paper, but Goa politics is never simple, and local equations change very fast .
Observers are also reading this as move to bring leaders from different backgrounds and widen Congress appeal across communities in Goa . But again, appointments alone do not win elections, workers need clarity, confidence and actual direction.
Now all eyes will be on how Girish Chodankar and this new GPCC team handle next few months . Will this reshuffle really revive Congress in Goa,or will it become just another internal change people forget after few weeks…
