Delhi people finally got little breathing space from brutal summer heat, and honestly,it almost feels strange after kind of temperatures city was seeing earlier this week . One weekend of cooler weather in Delhi feels like small festival only.
On Friday, the Safdarjung weather station recorded maximum temperature of 36.8 degrees Celsius, which was four degrees lower than normal . For Delhi in peak summer, that is not small thing ah .
And this cool-down came after thunderstorms and strong winds swept through National Capital Region late Thursday . Suddenly sky changed, mood changed, and even air felt slightly less punishing.
India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued yellow alert for Saturday, predicting continued cloud cover and light rainfall . So for now, people may get some more relief before sun starts acting up again .
Few things standing out clearly in this weather shift:
- City saw decline of up to 9.4 degrees Celsius compared to mid-week highs .
- Daily average AQI moved from a 'poor' 207 to a 'moderate' 123 on May 29.
- Wind speeds of 61 kmph were recorded at Palam during height of Thursday evening storm.
But tbh, this relief is not looking permanent . Meteorologists are already saying that from Sunday, mercury may start climbing gradually again, potentially increasing by 6 to 7 degrees Celsius over next five days as influence of western disturbance reduces .
And earlier this week was genuinely harsh . Ridge station had touched 45.6 degrees Celsius on May 27,which explains why this 36.8 degrees Celsius reading suddenly feels like mercy from weather gods.
There was also some improvement on pollution side . CAQM has revoked Stage-I actions under Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP),as strong winds helped disperse pollutants and gave Delhi cleanest air in nearly three weeks.
Looking toward monsoon,IMD briefing suggests India might see seasonal rainfall at 90% of Long Period Average . Northeast is likely to receive typical rainfall, but other regions may face deficit,so that part is also little worrying .
For now,Delhi locals are just enjoying this 39.5 degrees Celsius "feels-like" temperature before next heatwave spell takes hold . But how long this soft weather stays before Delhi starts burning again…
