Just saw this news from Madhya Pradesh and the numbers are honestly mind-boggling . The Enforcement Directorate has attached assets worth ₹67.25 crore from a former government engineer .
The case is against Govind Prasad Mehra, who was the Engineer-in-Chief of the MP Public Works Department . Apparently he and his family have been collecting wealth that's way beyond their legal income .
It all started when Lokayukta in Bhopal first flagged the issue . Their investigation found that during his long tenure from March 4,1985,to February 29,2024,the accused gathered assets that were 150% higher than what he officially earned.
And honestly, this is where the numbers get crazy . His lawful income was about ₹4 crore, but his total assets and spending crossed ₹10 crore . That is not small difference ah .
But main thing they found is just on another level . Bhopal Zonal Office highlighted one property called Kasturi Krishi Farm . It's a 72-acre luxury resort in Narmadapuram,in Village Saini, with residential units, artificial water bodies, everything.
The ED said family couldn't even explain where they got the money for its construction, which cost ₹16 crore . The whole farm itself is valued at ₹49.44 crore.
Few things they have seized so far:
- 72-acre luxury resort,Kasturi Krishi Farm,worth ₹49.44 crore .
- Gold jewellery valued at ₹3.51 crore and ₹8.79 lakh in cash was also found .
- attachment of ₹67.25 crore is to make sure this wealth isn't transferred or hidden .
This is all happening under the PMLA,the Prevention of Money Laundering Act . So it's a very serious case. Now ED is also sharing its findings with the Special Police Establishment to build a stronger prosecution.
It's just wild to think about how long this was going on . His service started in 1985 . For almost 40 years, this was building up silently.
And you have to wonder,if one official has this much, how deep does this problem really go… makes you think about the whole system…
