DK Shivakumar being announced as new Chief Minister of Karnataka is not small thing ah,especially after all those internal tensions people kept talking about.
During recent Congress Legislature Party (CLP) meeting,Siddaramaiah put forward Shivakumar’s name . And from what leaders are saying,it got overwhelming support from senior leaders including K.C. Venugopal and G. Parameshwara .
But what stands out is how Congress leaders are trying to show this as smooth, united transition . Venugopal even admitted there were initial concerns about possible upheaval inside party, but according to him, things did not go that way.
He said,"The transition is a proud moment for Congress, and it reflects our collective commitment to party's vision." That line itself shows party wants to project one message clearly,no public fight,no messy split,at least for now.
Randeep Singh Surjewala,General Secretary for Karnataka, also pushed same unity line by saying,"The development and progress of Karnataka are our common goals." And tbh, this is exactly kind of message Congress needs to keep repeating if it wants to avoid old faction talk coming back again .
Few things standing out clearly here:
- Emotional atmosphere during the meeting was described as unforgettable by leaders.
- Siddaramaiah's role was praised after he proposed Shivakumar’s name .
- N.A . Haris spoke about collaboration for the 2028 Assembly polls .
And this whole moment is not just about one leadership change only . Shivakumar's election as CLP leader is also being seen as political positioning before 2028 Assembly elections, where Congress clearly wants to look settled and organised .
Priyank Kharge also said all members would respect High Command's decision, which again feels like attempt to close discussion before it becomes bigger issue outside . In politics, sometimes one sentence like this is meant more for own party workers than for public.
But still,Karnataka politics is never that simple . Today everyone is smiling, calling it unity, calling it emotional moment… but how this actually plays out till 2028 is another question altogether…
