Delhi people finally getting small break from this brutal summer heat feels like actual good news rn . After days of heat going above 45 degrees Celsius at multiple stations across city, this cloud cover and light weather activity is not small thing ah.
IMD forecast says temperatures will stay below seasonal norms for weekend because of clouds, light rain and thunderstorms . But at same time, this relief is not permanent . After Saturday, temperatures are expected to slowly rise again in national capital.
Earlier this week, strong winds, thunderstorms and light rain moved across parts of Delhi and NCR . Because of that, maximum temperature dropped by approximately 5 degrees Celsius in just 24 hours . Friday recorded 36.8 degrees Celsius, while Thursday was at 41.1 degrees Celsius . That is big difference when people were already dealing with over 45 degrees Celsius earlier in week .
Few things standing out clearly in this weather shift:
- Thunderstorms and rain helped bring down temperatures and improve air quality .
- Air Quality Index improved from 207 to 123.
- Yellow alert has been issued for light rain and thunderstorms over weekend.
And honestly, this is where Delhi weather becomes confusing . Temperature may look lower on paper, but humidity is still making afternoons feel heavy . IMD said feels-like temperature has been hovering around 39.5 degrees Celsius during afternoons,so people are not exactly sitting in cool comfort also.
IMD has also said maximum temperature is expected to remain lower until May 30 . After that,it may rise by 6 to 7 degrees Celsius over next five days . So basically,Delhi gets breather for two to three days, and then heat may start pushing back again .
This change has come after two strong heatwave spells earlier this summer . First one was between April 23 and 25,and second one between May 18 and 21 . So when people say this rain and wind felt like relief, they are not exaggerating only.
For Saturday and Sunday,IMD has issued yellow alert with forecast of light rain, thunderstorms and strong winds . CAQM has also lifted certain pollution control measures after air quality improved, which shows how quickly weather can change Delhi’s air also.
But still, question is how long this comfort will actually last . Because once clouds move away and temperature jumps again by 6 to 7 degrees Celsius,Delhi may be back to same sweaty routine…
